Strategic Affairs Distinguished Lecture – China Philippines Maritime Conflict: Threat to Indopacific Security

The China-Philippines maritime conflict poses a significant threat to Indo-Pacific security, with both countries having territorial claims in the South China Sea. China’s aggressive actions, such as firing water cannons at Philippine vessels, have raised concerns. The Philippines is strengthening its alliances with other countries to deter Chinese aggression and maintain regional stability. Additionally, the conflict highlights the importance of upholding international law and resolving disputes through peaceful means.

Strategic Affairs Roundtable – Effectiveness of the MTCR (Missile Technology Control Regime)

The Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) is an informal political understanding among 35 countries to limit the proliferation of missiles and related technology. It was established in 1987 and focuses on controlling exports of goods and technologies that could contribute to the delivery of weapons of mass destruction. The regime places particular focus on rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles capable of delivering a payload of at least 500 kg to a range of at least 300 km. MTCR members have committed to licensing exports of controlled items and to not assisting ballistic missile programs in countries of proliferation concern.
